8 Ways to Spend Extra Time With Your Loved Ones

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and The J.M. Smucker Company, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #1850Coffee #1850CoffeeatMeijer  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

How do you spend time with the ones you love? Do you eat dinner together every night? Do you go on fun outings? For me, spending time with someone I love, my husband, starts with coffee. Growing up, I never really drank coffee and that was mostly because my parents weren’t coffee drinkers. We only served coffee in our house if we had guests over and I never had my first sip of it until I was in high school. When I started dating my husband while we were both in college, we would often meet up at coffee shops and work on our homework together. We both went to different schools, so we had a long-distance relationship, but we were able to connect by introducing each other to new things. My husband loves coffee and he encouraged me to try a new drink each time we hung out. Thanks to him, coffee definitely grew on me and with every sip I wondered how I had ever lived without it.

Now that my husband and I are married and no longer college kids meeting up at coffee shops, we start each day with a cup of coffee before we leave for work. This gives us a chance to spend a little time together before we both head out the door. Since drinking coffee and spending time with each other is such an important part of our day, we made sure to get a great coffee maker. While picking out the perfect coffee maker was important, selecting the best brand of coffee that provides the rich, bold and smooth flavor day in and day out is just as important (if not more important). Choosing a great blend and a perfect roast is like an art. With so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming. My husband and I like to try new types of coffee often and talk about what we liked and didn’t like about new blends or roasts that hit the shelves of our local Meijer store. For the past few days we’ve been enjoying 1850 Brand Coffee (I’ll tell you more about that later).

In today’s world, so much of our time is spent looking at screens. Between phones, computers, tablets and TVs, it seems like people would rather communicate behind a keyboard than face-to-face. I value my morning coffee chats with my husband and I know he feels the same way. My husband and I have a personal connection to coffee and the way that it has allowed us to be fully present with one another since the beginning of our relationship. It’s a great way for us to spend a little extra time with each other and it gets our day going in the right direction.

No matter what your hobbies or interests are, there are several ways to spend time with the people you care about. I’m going to be sharing eight ideas in today’s blog post, so read on to get some inspiration so you can plan your next family outing or date night activity.

1. Do an artistic activity like painting pottery or DIY crafts

Bust out the craft supplies and get the creative juices flowing by having a day full of arts and crafts. If you want to make something at home, head to your local craft store and purchase supplies. Then, sit around a table with your family or friends and start creating! If you want to go to a studio for a fun artistic outing, you can paint pottery, learn how to make jewelry or create and pour your own candles. There are so many great ways to create art or decor that you can display in your home and if you created something with your loved ones, you'll always remember them each time you look at your new art piece.

2. Have a family game night

If your family is as competitive as mine, you know that game nights come along with lots of laugh and bragging rights. There are so many games out there nowadays - everything from board games that involve lots of strategic thinking to card games that will make you blush. Playing games with your loved ones is a great way to pass the time and enjoy each other's company for a few hours. No matter what game you decide to play, you'll have endless hours of fun and make lots of memories in the process. Can't ask for anything more than that!

3. Go on a hike or walk around your local downtown area

There’s nothing like the great outdoors! Getting some fresh air with the family can be so fun and it’s a great way to get some extra exercise in. Look up local parks or hiking trails in your area and go for a weekend hike. You could pack a picnic and stop to eat lunch when you reach a scenic area. Hiking with a buddy ensures you have someone to talk to and it’s much safer. If hiking isn’t really your thing, head to your local downtown area and do some window shopping. You’ll be able to walk around with your loved ones and check out all of the new things going on in the neighborhood.

4. Cook a homemade breakfast or brunch and catch up over 1850 Brand Coffee

I don’t know about you, but I love a good homemade meal. Although cooking alone is perfectly fine, cooking with someone else is even more fun. If you and your loved ones enjoy spending time together in the kitchen, pick out a new breakfast or brunch dish and make it together. Cooking requires teamwork, communication and attention to detail, so it’s a great thing to do if you’re looking for a bonding activity. As your breakfast meal cooks, don’t forget to turn on your coffeemaker and make a pot full of 1850 Brand Coffee, a new premium coffee from the makers of Folgers. 1850 Brand Coffee has a unique blend of ground coffee that delivers bold, yet smooth taste and it’s evenly roasted for consistent coffee flavor with less bitterness. When you think about it, every bold day comes along with a bold morning and the cup of coffee you drink should live up to it! If you didn't know, J.A. Folger traveled to San Francisco back in 1850 at the age of 14 and started something new and innovative as he entered the coffee business. His legacy lives on today with the bold-yet-smooth taste of 1850 Brand Coffee which fuels original ideas and new adventures. If you love coffee as much as I do, you’ll definitely want to give it a try.

5. Learn something new together

Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new, so why not learn with your loved ones? You could learn how to play a new sport, how to play a musical instrument or even a new language. Learning new things is more fun when you have someone to practice with. The last time my husband and I learned something new together was when we went fowling (football + bowling). This is a new "sport" that's popular where I live and it requires throwing a football at bowling pins. It looks a lot easier than it actually is, so being able to learn how to play the game together was really helpful. My husband was able to coach me on how to hold and throw the football properly while I was able to give him advice on where to stand to and throw the ball from to ensure he knocked down as many bowling pins as possible.

6. Give back and volunteer in your community

No matter what you’re passionate about, there’s always a way to give back and serve the people in your local community. If you love animals, spend the day volunteering at the Humane Society or at an animal shelter. If you like to cook, sign up to work at a soup kitchen and serve meals to those that need something to eat. If you excel at home improvement tasks, lend your skills to an organization that builds homes for people in need. There are countless ways that you can give back your time. Start by determining what you and your loved ones would enjoy doing and then look up different organizations that you can inquire about volunteer opportunities with.

7. Tackle a project around the house

I know firsthand that there are always home improvement tasks to work on and ways to spruce up the interior or exterior of a home. Doing things like raking leaves or adding a new coat of paint to a room seem boring, but when you take on the project with the help of a friend or loved one, you'll get done a lot quicker and you'll have someone to talk to while you work. When my husband and I come together to do chores or yard work, it's amazing to see what we can accomplish in just an hour. The best part is that we get to spend time together and we both get to enjoy the fruits of our labor once the job is done!

8. Run errands together

Everyone could use a little company when running errands and doing mundane activities like grocery shopping or going to the bank, right? See if your loved ones will tag along with you next time you have to run out for a bit. I love when my husband goes grocery shopping at Meijer with me. Most of the time we’ll stick together and walk up and down the aisles until we have everything we need in our cart, but if my husband ever wanders off, I can usually find him in the coffee aisle. Every time we pass this section of the store, we add a bag of 1850 Brand Coffee to our cart - picking it up at Meijer is so easy. You can visit Meijer from 5/6 - 6/2 and take $1 off any 1850 Brand Coffee Product with the mPerk digital coupon (while supplies last).

No matter what you decide to do when you spend time with your loved ones, you should cherish and savor each moment. Like I mentioned earlier, it seems as though people are so busy nowadays and would rather spend time in front of a screen than in front of their friends and family. My hope is that this blog post gives you some inspiration on things you can do with your loved ones and I encourage you to seek out more time with the people who are important to you. We only have one life to live and only you have the power to decide how to spend it and who to spend it with.

If you haven't tried 1850 Brand Coffee yet, be sure to check it out next time you're shopping at Meijer. You can find it in K-Cup and Ground varieties and it's also available in three Ready to Drink flavors. The roasts range from dark to light, so no matter what your preference is, you'll be able to find a blend that's right for you! From one coffee lover to another, I hope you enjoy many cups of 1850 Brand Coffee and continue to make bold choices that will make life interesting!
