I'm a big fan of traveling! When I have a trip planned I always look forward to it and I literally count down the days until I depart. I love to go to new places and see new things, especially with the ones I love.
When it comes to packing my bags, I'm always thinking ahead and planning out what I'll need based on the weather forecast at my destination, the activities I have planned and the number of days I'll be there. I feel much more comfortable being prepared and having everything I need with me when I travel.
Whether you're going on a vacation soon or traveling for business, I've put together a list of extra things I pack whenever I go on a trip.
1. Panties, Socks and Bras
Sometimes traveling can be unpredictable, so I always pack extra pairs of panties and socks as well as an extra bra when I travel. You never know if your flight will get canceled or delayed (or if you’ll miss it altogether) and have to spend another night away from home. In my opinion, having different pairs of underwear or socks to choose from is never a bad thing. Depending on what types of outfits you pack, you may need to have a few different options as far as panties, socks and bras go anyway.
I wear contacts everyday, so I never go on a trip without adding a few extra pairs to my bag. Luckily, I’ve never had to use a backup pair, but I feel so much better knowing that I have extra contacts available if one of mine rips or begins to irritate my eye. Plus, if I know that I’ll be traveling somewhere and swimming will be involved, I want to make sure I have enough contacts in case one falls out.
3. Lip Balm
I’m obsessed with lip balm. I don’t leave the house without it. Ever. If you’re like me, you hate the feeling of chapped lips. Whether you’re traveling to a cold or warm climate, having enough lip balm is a definite must. I like to have extra lip balm* on hand so I keep one tube in my purse and one in my carryon bag. Mwah!
4. Bobby Pins
You can never have enough bobby pins. I always throw a few extra ones in my toiletry bag before I leave the house and head out for a trip. Not only do I use them for my hair, I use them in my hotel room, too. Here’s a little lifehack for you: if the curtains in your hotel room won’t stay shut, use a few bobby pins to secure them together. This will help keep your room dark once the sun rises. You’re welcome!
Nothing is worse than getting sick while you’re away from home. That’s why it’s important to pack extra medicine! I always carry a little pill box* in my purse filled with aspirin and allergy pills. Aside from that, I recommend packing medication that can help with upset stomach symptoms. Many times, you’re eating at different restaurants or experiencing new types of food when you’re traveling. Do yourself a favor and pack some chewable Pepto tablets that you can keep in your toiletry bag in case something doesn't agree with you.
6. Backup Phone Charger
This is one of those “must have” items if you’re going to be stuck at the airport all day waiting for your outbound or inbound flight (or even if you have a layover somewhere). Sometimes finding an outlet at the airport can be like winning the lottery. Having a backup portable phone charger could be a lifesaver if your cell is running low on juice before you board the plane or while you’re in the sky. I recommend getting one that has two USB ports, like the Anker PowerCore 1300*, but if you get one with just one USB port that should be fine!
7. Camera Memory Card/Battery
If I know I’m going to be snapping a lot of photos when I get to my final destination, I always make sure I pack an extra memory card and battery for my camera. I hate when I'm snapping a pic of something cool and my camera alerts me that my memory card is full or my battery is almost dead. I keep these two extra things in my camera bag. Luckily, they're both small items so they barely take up any space.
Sure, you can go through all the apps on your smartphone if you’re feeling bored while waiting for your flight, but what happens when you’ve gone through everything there is to see in your Instagram, Twitter and Facebook feeds? Think about downloading a movie to watch on your phone or tablet while you’re at the airport or on the plane. Personally, I always pack at least two books when I’m going on a vacation. I love to catch up on my reading while I’m flying or lounging on the beach. Isn’t that what vacations are for anyway – to disconnect a little bit? I think yes!
Now that you’ve read this post, you’re all set for your next adventure! You can still pack light while including a few of the extra things I mentioned above. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what you need to pack for your trip and what you can leave behind.
