This is a sponsored post with The Huntington National Bank and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.
As a young millennial, I have a lot of things going on in my life. Between my full-time job, blogging, traveling, spending time with family and friends and just general hobbies, I’m always on the go. Since I’m awfully busy, I have to carve out time to spend on tasks like paying bills and sorting out my finances. I like to set aside time every few weeks to go over anything and everything related to banking. I have found that being intentional with my finances has made such a difference, especially after entering “adulthood.”
My husband is very well-versed in the world of personal finance, so I definitely attribute my interest in banking to him. Since getting married, he has helped me to see the bigger picture in terms of what we can do with our money. He’s shown me that we can make our money work for us in a number of ways, like contributing to our 401k’s and saving for retirement early on in our careers and paying off our credit cards in full every month to avoid paying interest.
Over the years I have become more comfortable with making financial and banking-related decisions. While it’s great to know the basics when it comes to money management, I know that there is still so much more for me to learn. That’s why I’m so excited to be working with Huntington Bank and serving as one of their social media ambassadors this year. In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing a variety of content related to Huntington Bank, including their services, involvement in the local community and more!
Just a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to visit Huntington Bank’s headquarters in Columbus, OH for their Influencer Summit. I, along with a handful of other bloggers and content creators, got an inside look at all things Huntington and we learned so much about this Midwest-based bank. During my time in Columbus with the Huntington team, I had the opportunity to learn more about Huntington’s mission and I got to meet some amazing team members at their HQ. It was such a great experience and it definitely made me feel excited about this relationship and the fact that I get to take you all along for this ride with me!
Did you know that the very first Huntington branch still operates today? We got to get a glimpse of it during our tour at Huntington’s HQ. The teller windows looked so cool – they immediately transported me back in time.
Another cool tidbit that I learned while I was at Huntington’s HQ is that the “H” in the Huntington Bank logo is a honeycomb. I don’t know why I never realized that before! The honeycomb is significant because it illustrates a community. Bees work together to create their own little community and Huntington Bank wants to be a reflection of that type of community in all of the local areas they operate in.
One of my favorite parts of the Influencer Summit was getting a sneak peek at Huntington’s new brand commercials. I’ve already seen a few of the ads airing on TV – maybe you have too! If you haven’t seen them yet, you can check them out here.
After wrapping up at the Influencer Summit and heading home, I couldn’t wait to brainstorm and set my financial goals and intentions for this year. I absolutely love to travel, so I definitely want to save up some money to go on a few vacations next year. Last year my husband and I went to Germany. Next year I’m thinking we’ll head to Switzerland (I’ve heard that Switzerland is expensive, so we’ll definitely need to be diligent when it comes to saving money). Aside from travel, I really want to focus more on saving to buy a new house. We’re starting to outgrow the home that we’re in now and we just need more space. It would be great to upgrade to a larger place with more bedrooms, bathrooms and a larger kitchen. I’ve been checking real estate listings nearly every day to see what types of homes come onto the market. I can’t wait to start visiting some properties and scheduling showings with our realtor.
With so many exciting things coming up in my future, I know that managing my money will play a big role in how successful I am in reaching my goals. I decided to open a Huntington account to turn my dreams into a reality. I figured that if I set up a bank account to reach my goals and track my progress when it comes to saving, I’ll be able to pay for my vacation to Switzerland and have enough money saved up for a new house in no time!
I decided to open my Huntington account online and I was surprised by how easy the process was. You can open a bank account in-person, online like I did, or even over the phone. I love the fact that Huntington gives you the flexibility to choose from personal banking options, like checking and savings and you can monitor your accounts online, on your phone or in-person at your local branch. No matter how you like to manage your money, Huntington makes it easy for you to do it your way.
I decided to open an Asterisk-Free Checking® account. This is a simple account that’s free to open and maintain. It also has no minimum balance and no monthly maintenance fees. In order to apply online, you have to be at least 18 years or older, a U.S. citizen, a resident of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania or West Virginia and you have to open either an individual or joint account.
When opening an account, you’ll need about 10 minutes of spare time, a U.S. government-issued ID like a driver’s license or passport and you’ll have to provide your social security number.
For me, the process was over in the blink of an eye. I’m so excited to start using my Asterisk-Free Checking account so I can save up money for all of the goals that I have established. Every little bit helps, so being able to manage my money with the help of Huntington should make a big difference and I think I’ll be able to reach my goals relatively quickly. I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress toward my goals as my ambassadorship with Huntington continues through the rest of this year.
Now, I want to turn the tables and see how you, my readers, feel about finances. Do you have any finance-related questions? Is there anything that I can help you with over the next few months during my relationship with Huntington? If you have any questions at all, feel free to drop a comment below or reach out to me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’ll be sharing much more about my journey with Huntington in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, make sure you stay up to date with everything going on at Huntington by following them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. For more information on Huntington, click here.
