When I was growing up, my grandma always had a decanter filled with freshly brewed iced tea in her refrigerator. I can remember sitting on the back porch at my grandparents house with my family drinking iced tea during the summer months. Now, my parents are the ones that always have iced tea in their fridge. My mom loves to make sun tea and serve it over ice. It's the perfect way to cool down on a hot day.

Through my grandparents and my parents, I've definitely become fond of tea. When I'm sick the first thing I reach for is a cup of hot tea with lemon. On chilly winter mornings, I'll also warm up with a cup of tea after arriving to the office and reading emails.

Out of all the types of tea out there, I love green tea best since it's packed with nutrients and it has many health benefits. As much as I love green tea, sometimes it can be boring to drink without adding something extra. I love adding slices of lemon to add more flavor to hot tea and lately my go-to add-in for iced tea has been mixed berries.

Since I'm such a fan of iced tea, I wanted to share a recipe that I've been loving lately with all of you! It's tasty, refreshing and really easy to make. You only need a handful of ingredients and when using the Capresso Iced Tea Maker, it's ready in minutes.

So, without further adieu, here is my recipe for Iced Mixed Berry Green Tea using the Capresso Iced Tea Maker!

Ingredients:

  • 6 green tea bags
  • A 12 oz bag of frozen mixed berries (you can use fresh berries if you prefer)
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • Water

Instructions:

To use the Capresso Iced Tea Maker, you'll want to first plug it in to an outlet in an area where you have plenty of counter space. Next, remove the water reservoir from the back of the Iced Tea Maker and fill it with water. The water tank has fill lines that are clearly marked, so make sure you add the appropriate amount of water. For reference, the glass pitcher that comes with the Iced Tea Maker can hold 80 oz/2.5 qt of water.

Once the water tank is filled, secure it to the back of the Iced Tea Maker and close the lid. The next step is to prepare the mixed berries. After opening your 12 oz package of frozen mixed berries, simply pour them into a mixing bowl, add 3/4 cup of sugar and stir together until the berries are coated with sugar. Let the berries sit for about 15-20 minutes until they have softened or macerated. You'll notice that the berries have created a syrup as a result of sitting in the sugar. After 15-20 minutes elaspes, set the berries aside. You'll be adding them along with the sugary, berry syrup mixture to your pitcher filled with ice later.

While you wait for the mixed berries to soften, add six bags of green tea (you can use loose leaf tea if that's what you prefer) to the Capresso Iced Tea Maker's permanent filter. This filter is super easy to remove and put back into place and you can find it by lifting the top flap just above the flavor enhancer dial.

Just before you're ready to brew your green tea, add ice to the glass pitcher. Once the pitcher is filled with ice, pour the mixed berry and sugar mixture on top of the ice. Feel free to mix the berries in with the ice if you want, although this isn't completely necessary. Make sure to add the the lid back to the top of the pitcher once it's filled with the ice and berries.

To turn the Iced Tea Maker on, simply press the "on" button located on the bottom of the of the right hand side. You can see the button in the photo below. The tea will start brewing and flowing into the pitcher filled with ice within seconds. While the tea is brewing, there's no need to touch the Capresso Iced Tea Maker - it'll do all the work for you! The machine will even shut off automatically.

Once the tea is brewed and the pitcher is full, it's time to enjoy your Mixed Berry Green Tea! I prefer to drink my tea with the bits of mixed fruit included, but if you prefer to drink it without fruit, you can use a strainer to sift it out and pour the tea back into the glass pitcher.

If you want to kick your Mixed Berry Iced Tea up a notch, you could add a splash of lemon lime soda. This is a great way to put a spin on this recipe and it's perfect to serve at parties or family gatherings.

I was so surprised at how easy it was to use the Capresso Iced Tea Maker. Everything written in the instruction manual was easy to follow and I was able to brew my iced tea in a matter of minutes after taking the product out of the box.

As you probably gathered from reading my recipe, using the Capresso Iced Tea Maker is pretty straightforward. To recap, here are the main steps you need to take in order to brew your own iced tea:

  1. Plug in the Iced Tea Maker and remove the water reservoir from the back of the Iced Tea Maker and fill with water. The fill line is marked clearly on the container, so make sure you water doesn't go past that point.
  2. Add your favorite bagged or loose tea to the removable permanent filter and close the lid.
  3. Fill the glass pitcher with ice and secure the lid to the top of it. Place the pitcher under the tea filter.
  4. Set your desired brew strength using the Flavor Enhancer.
  5. Press the "on" button located on the side of the Iced Tea Maker and sit back while your tea is being brewed. Remember that the Iced Tea Maker will shut off automatically when your tea is done being made.

My thoughts on the Capresso Iced Tea Maker:

I absolutely loved using this product! I couldn't believe how easy it was to set it up after getting it out of it's box. The fact that it comes with a glass pitcher is so nice and convenient. I do wish that the glass pitcher was a little more thick and sturdy. It's pretty lightweight and I was afraid that I was going to drop it. Even when I set it down on the counter, I felt like I had to do it softly so it wouldn't shatter. Additionally, when you go to brew your tea, you have to place the lid on the pitcher. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I had a hard time getting the pitcher back into place right under the permanent filter when the lid was attached. After moving the pitcher around a little I was finally able to place it in the Iced Tea Maker.

Other than those small things, every feature on this product is great. The water tank is easy to fill and secure back into place along with the removable filter basket. I also love that the pitcher holds 2.5 qt of tea. After making my tea, I had plenty to keep and store in my refrigerator.

As simple as it is, my favorite feature on the Capresso Iced Tea Maker is the automatic shut off. Being able to brew tea and move on to other tasks while waiting for it to be finished is great. Having the option to brew either bagged or loose tea is awesome as well! You can brew anywhere from four to 10 bags of tea at once or three to six level teaspoons of loose tea!

If you decide to purchase this product for yourself, you'll receive an instruction manual along with a recipe book containing 18 different iced tea recipes! I can't wait to try the Raspberry Peppermint Iced Tea (how great does that sound for the holidays?!) and the Rosemary Ginger Green Tea recipes. You'll want to make sure that you read through the instruction manual so you understand how to properly clean the Iced Tea Maker after use. Also, if you ever need replacement items like a new filter you can purchase those right on Capresso's website

This is definitely one of my new favorite kitchen products and I'm so excited to keep using it and making iced tea. With the holiday season approaching, this would make a perfect gift for the iced tea lover on your shopping list!
